JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: FOOD SERVICE ASSISTANT RANGE: 7
WORK YEAR: Approximately 10 Months, During the School Year.
DEFINITION:
Under supervision, to assist in any area of food preparation in a school kitchen; to assist in maintaining the kitchen in a sanitary and orderly condition; and to do related food service work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Prepares breakfasts, salads, sandwiches and other food; sells lunch tickets as needed; serves food; assists in setting up steam table for food service; assists in cleaning and storing equipment and food supplies; runs dishwasher; cleans utensils and kitchen area.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of: methods of preparing food, including meats and other main dishes, salads, sandwiches and desserts; use of basic kitchen utensils and equipment.
Ability to: prepare main dishes, salads, sandwiches and other foods; operate cafeteria equipment; understand oral and written directions; maintain relationships with students, staff and patrons.
Experience: one year experience in quantity food preparation and kitchen maintenance.
Education: equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. This provision may be waived by the school district.
